About

CSA generally puts on events for the student body  to share and promote awareness for Chinese and Chinese-American cultural and societal issues while supporting a social environment for students of all backgrounds at Washington University. We’re a member of the Asian Multicultural Council (AMC) and often collaborate with them to put on events for the Asian community.

CSA is mainly composed of four components open to anyone at WashU. You can find out more about them by clicking the links below.

  1. GENERAL BODY EVENTS

These events often include free bubble tea, lantern festival celebrations, study breaks with Chinese treats, speaker panels, and more. We also host a “CSA Answers your Questions,” where upperclassmen will share the inside scoop about the majors and classes at WashU.

  1. SPEAKER EVENTS

Last year, we invited Brian Yang, producer of Linsanity, to campus for a screening and talk. In the past, we have also invited Harry Shum Jr. from Glee, Asian American blogger Angry Asian Man. This year, we hope to invite more outside speakers to campus and to host events with professors at WashU.  If you’re interested in gaining a leadership position and joining the Speaker Committee, contact us at csa@su.wustl.edu

  1. ANNUAL CSA FORMAL

Every November before Thanksgiving, CSA hosts a formal, a time for friends to come together and relax right before the start of finals crunch time. The venue is a secret and is not released to the public until the day of, so be sure to tune in and buy your tickets in early November! If you’re interested in gaining a leadership position and gaining event planning experience, join the Formal Committee by contacting us at csa@su.wustl.edu

  1. COMMUNITY SERVICE

CSA is also dedicated to fostering a family environment for the students at WashU, and one of the best ways to get to know people is to do community service together! Past community service opportunities include spending time with Chinese elders at a local senior center (good way to practice your Chinese!),volunteering for the St. Louis Cardinals games, volunteering at an animal shelter, translating medical terms for Chinese speakers, and many others. If you’re interested in hearing more about our biweekly volunteering opportunities, contact us at csa@su.wustl.edu.
